The willingness to surrender
A piece of feedback catches us at the wrong moment. The body tightens, emotion gathers, thought starts circling. We try to think our way out, but the effort can become another turn of the same movement.
Surrender is different. We cannot force it.
But will can become willingness. We can stop feeding the struggle and become willing to meet the state as it is.
The will can take us to the threshold. It cannot produce the surrender itself.
Meditation or prayer can help us make that turn. If something loosens, it may carry into ordinary activity: walking, cooking, washing the dishes. The activity is not the surrender. It is simply life continuing from a less contracted place.
For a moment, we stop trying to create the opposite of what we feel.
This is not resignation. The situation may still need a response. But the state no longer has to become the whole of us.
